Down by the lake, it’s the wind
The windmill and the convent, Pointe-Claire Village
The south end of town runs along Lac Saint-Louis. The Village sits on Lakeshore Road, with old stone and wood houses, a French bakery, terrasses in summer and people walking dogs down to the water. At the end of Saint-Joachim, the stone windmill stands out on the point. It’s the town’s emblem.
Further along Lakeshore, Stewart Hall has a gallery upstairs and a big lawn that runs down to the lake, with lounge chairs and free shows in the park in summer. Past that, the nautical centre at Baie-de-Valois rents canoes and kayaks, and the canoe-kayak club has kids out training on the water most summer mornings.
They built the windmill on the point because it catches the wind off the lake, and it still does. On a gusty day, cars parked near the water get a fine spray that dries into spots on the glass and the hood, plus whatever the gulls add. In winter that wind carries salt spray off Lakeshore Road onto the whole car. None of it is a big deal on its own. It adds up, though, and a car that sits by the water all year shows it by the spring.
When the van’s working down near the Village, the team likes to grab a steak sub from Gigi on Lakeshore. It’s cash only, so come prepared.
Up north, driveways and the 40
North of the 20 it’s bungalows and Magil splits on curving streets, and almost every one has a driveway. That’s about as easy as it gets for us. The van pulls up beside or behind the car, and it carries its own water and power, so nobody has to run a hose or leave the garage open for an outlet.
Fairview is up at the 40 and Saint-Jean, and since this spring there’s a REM station right beside it. The Terra Cotta woods are close by too, if you want trails instead of a mall.
The 20 and the 40 both cut across town, and if you drive to work you’re probably on one of them. All winter they’re brined and salted, and the spray sticks to the rocker panels, the wheel wells and the tailgate. It comes inside on boots too, so by February the mats have a white edge. Get the salt off once in mid-winter and again when the snow’s gone, so it isn’t riding around on the car from December to May. Coatings and correction mean a trip to Van Horne
The van does exterior and interior details. Hand washes, paint correction and ceramic coating need our bay, so those only happen at the shop at 5300 Van Horne in Côte-des-Neiges. Outside rush hour, that’s about 20 minutes in.
If your car is parked a block from the lake, a ceramic coating is the one worth the drive. Water beads and rolls off coated paint, so less of it dries where it lands, and spray and winter salt come off with a rinse. If the spots have already etched in, we do paint correction first and coat it after.

Before the van heads out west
We’re right on Lakeshore and the car’s always covered in water spots. Will an exterior detail get them off?
The fresh ones, yes. Lake spray leaves minerals behind when it dries, and a Mobile Prestige Exterior takes off what’s sitting on the surface. Spots that have baked on the hood for a few summers can etch into the clear coat. Those need paint correction, which we do at the shop.
Our Magil split has a one-car driveway. Is there enough room?
Usually. We need to open every door all the way and walk around the car. Tell us how the driveway’s laid out when you book, and we’ll work out where the van goes before we show up.
I park near the water in the Village and the gulls get the car all summer. Can the mobile exterior handle that?
Yes, a Mobile Prestige Exterior washes it off. Try not to leave it sitting, though. Droppings that bake on the hood through a hot stretch can leave a dull mark in the clear coat, and a wash won’t lift that. It needs paint correction, which we do at the shop.
