Hand washes, paint correction and ceramic coating need our bay, so those happen only at 5300 Van Horne. For a car that does the 20 all winter, a coating is the one job we’d say is worth driving in for.
Lakeshore Road, the Arboretum and the long drive in
The yacht club on Lake Saint-Louis, Baie-D’Urfé
Baie-D’Urfé is about as far west as the island goes before Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. Most people picture Lakeshore Road, where the lake opens up in front of the town hall and Fritz Park. The park has benches facing the water and a bandstand for the summer concerts, and in June, Baie-D’Urfé Day brings the parade and ends with fireworks. The Fritz Community Centre looks out over all of it, and couples book it for weddings. A little further along, the yacht club is a small sailing club with dinghies on the ramp, weekly races against the other clubs on the lake, and the boats pulled up for winter storage once the season ends.
Back from the water, the streets are quiet and full of trees, and the houses sit well back on big lots. There’s room to work almost everywhere. The van pulls in beside the car and runs on its own water and power, so the whole mobile detail happens where the car already sits.
Living at the end of the island means a long run on the 20 or the 40 to get anywhere. The 20 crosses the top of the residential side of town, and the industrial park fills the space between it and the 40, with trucks in and out all day. In winter that commute throws a grey film of salt up the lower doors and the back hatch, and more of it comes in on boots.
A few minutes north, past the 40, is the Morgan Arboretum, McGill’s big forest on the Macdonald campus. People walk the trails when the leaves turn in the fall, and once the snow comes it’s cross-country skiing and snowshoeing until sugaring-off season in the spring. Ski season is the hard one on the inside of a car, with wet boots on the floor and skis sliding around the cargo area.

Before you book
When the boat goes into winter storage at the yacht club, the damp cushions and sail bags come home in our car. Now it smells like a wet dock line. Can you get that out?
Usually, yes. The smell sits in the carpet and cloth seats where the wet gear rested, so leaving the windows open doesn’t do much. A Mobile Prestige Interior cleans the carpet and upholstery right where it soaked in. If anything leaked oil or fuel onto the carpet, tell us when you book.
The morning after the Baie-D’Urfé Day fireworks, the car has grey grit all over it. Will that hurt the paint?
Not if it comes off soon. It’s mostly ash and bits of paper from the fireworks. Don’t wipe it off with a dry cloth, because dragging grit across the paint leaves fine scratches. Rinse it off with a hose, or book a Mobile Prestige Exterior in the week after and we’ll take it off properly.
