The Lachine Canal and Griffintown
Griffintown looks a little different every time we drive through. There’s always a new tower going up somewhere between Peel and the canal, and most people here live in condos with the car parked underneath. A lot of them walk or bike most days, so the car can sit down there for a week or two between drives.
The canal is the best part. The Lachine Canal path runs right along the neighbourhood, and on a summer evening it fills up with cyclists and people out for a slow walk. The stretch around the Peel Basin is a nice spot to stop and watch it all go by. Follow the water west and you end up at Atwater Market, with its butchers and cheese counters inside and farm stands out front in the warm months.
On Ottawa Street, the old New City Gas buildings are still standing. They’re big stone halls with steep roofs, built back when the place made gas for the city’s street lamps. Today they host concerts and events, and they’re the easiest landmark in the neighbourhood to give directions by.
If we’re working in Griffintown around lunch, someone on the team is heading to La Bête à Pain on Young Street for a ham sandwich.
What all that construction does to your car
New buildings mean dust. It drifts off the worksites and settles on every car nearby, and the trucks coming out of the sites leave mud on the street that ends up on your wheels and lower doors. A car that parks outside can look grey again a couple of days after a wash.
That dust is grit. Wiping it off a dry car drags it across the clear coat and leaves fine scratches you’ll notice the next time the sun hits the hood.

If your car lives under the building
The van carries its own water and power, so all we need is some room around the car. Whether that room can be in your garage depends on your building. Management has to be fine with a detailer working down there, and the van has to fit under the entrance. Some of these ramps are low.

Before you book
There’s a tower going up next to my building. Won’t the dust just come right back after a detail?
Some of it will, as long as the site is busy and the car parks outside. A detail still gets the grit off safely before it has a chance to scratch anything. If you’d like the dust to rinse off more easily in between, a ceramic coating helps with that, and we do those at the shop.
Our garage ramp is pretty low. What if the van can’t get in?
Then we work outside. A visitor spot or an outdoor space your building is happy with is fine, as long as there’s room to walk around the car. If nothing like that is close to your tower, bring the car to us on Van Horne instead.
My car sat in the garage most of the winter. What should I book in the spring?

Can I rinse the dust off myself between details?
Sure, as long as you start with lots of water. Rubbing it off dry, with a cloth or a brush or your hand, is what hurts the paint. No hose in your building? A Lux O Club membership gets you Express hand washes at our shop as often as you like for a monthly fee.
