If you work in Laval or Montreal, your day probably starts at the 15/640 interchange and then crosses the Rivière des Mille Îles on the Gédéon-Ouimet. It’s the main road between the North Shore and the city, and it’s rarely empty. The province is rebuilding the bridge, so expect work zones and night closures on it for a good while yet.
In winter the traffic bunches up on the approach, and the trucks ahead of you throw salty slush at the hood and windshield the whole way across. It dries into a white crust on the lower doors and the back hatch. Add the grit that drifts off a construction site and the car looks a week older by the time you park. Heading the other way on the 640, toward Terrebonne or Saint-Eustache, isn’t much kinder.

Driveways on almost every street
Most people here live in a house with a driveway. Near the river, off chemin de la Grande-Côte, there are older bungalows on big lots, some backing right onto the water. Around rue Mérilda-Dion, the houses at Cité du Boisé Dion are still going up, most of them with double garages. A driveway is the easiest setup we get. The van pulls in beside the car and we start.

Saturdays at the Faubourg, where GM used to build Camaros
The Faubourg Boisbriand sits in the corner of the 15 and the 640, on the land where General Motors built Camaros and Firebirds until the plant closed. Now it’s an open-air shopping district. Costco is on avenue des Grandes Tourelles, and the rest of the stores are spread over big lots with a couple of roundabouts in between. Most people drive from one section to the next instead of walking it.
So a Saturday there means getting in and out of the car four or five times. In January, every stop brings more slush in on your boots, and it all ends up on the driver’s mat. The Costco run finishes with a trunk full of bulk boxes and whatever leaked out of the bag on the way home. That’s interior work, trunk included, and it’s easy to do in the driveway.
Summer on the Mille Îles
When it’s warm, a lot of Boisbriand heads to the river. At the Parc des Berges on rue Hubert-Aquin you can rent a canoe, a kayak or a paddleboard from late June into early September and paddle out between the islands. The Centre d’interprétation de la nature on rue de Chavigny is a small wood right on the water, with short trails that end at lookouts over the river, plus a dock where people fish. From there a linear park follows the shore, crossing the Dumontier creek on a footbridge.
All of that comes home in the car. Wet life jackets and a damp paddleboard bag spend the afternoon in the back, and by August the cargo area smells like the river, more so if the fishing gear rides back there too. Getting the carpet properly clean and dry is most of the fix, and that’s a Mobile Prestige Interior.

Paint correction, ceramic coating and our hand washes need the bay at 5300 Van Horne, so for those you’d bring the car down. It’s the 15 south across Laval, then the Décarie. Plan on about half an hour when traffic’s moving, and longer when the bridge work has lanes closed.
Of the shop jobs, a ceramic coating makes the most sense for a car that crosses the bridge twice a day. Road film and salt don’t hold on to coated paint the way they do to bare clear coat, so a wash between storms actually gets the car clean. With the bridge work on the 15, my car’s grey by Wednesday. Is that something the van can deal with?
Yes. That film is salt and road grime with some grit from the work zone mixed in, and a Mobile Prestige Exterior gets it off in your driveway. In between, a rinse with the hose on a mild day does more good than you’d think, because it’s the salt sitting on the lower panels all week that does the damage.
Our Costco runs leave the trunk a mess. Is the cargo area part of an interior detail?
