Between the lake and the 20
Lake Saint-Louis, Beaconsfield
South of the highway, Beaconsfield runs down to Lac Saint-Louis. Lakeshore Road follows the water past old houses on deep lots, tall cedar hedges and the yacht club, and on a summer evening there are sailboats out on the lake. Centennial Park sits right on the shore, with paths under big trees and a jetty that’s the best spot in town to watch the sun go down. The City is building a new cultural centre on the marina side of the park, so that stretch will look different in a year or two.
A few streets up, Beaurepaire Village is the old strip along Beaconsfield Boulevard. From May, the Marché BEAU sets up there on Fridays at the corner of Fieldfare, with local farmers, fresh bread and a band playing. In December the same neighbours put on a holiday market.
North of the 20 the lots get bigger and the driveways longer, and past them is Angell Woods, an old forest that runs up toward the 40. People walk their dogs there year round on trails that stay muddy well into May. And right where Saint-Charles crosses the tracks, the old station on Elm still sends the morning train downtown.
Lake wind, the 20 and the station lot
Down by the water, the wind off the lake does most of the damage. In the fall it carries spray and grit across Lakeshore Road, and in winter it pushes road salt and snow sideways into whatever side of the car faces the lake. It’s common to see a car that looks fine on the driveway side and grey on the other.
If you drive to work, you know the 20. The line for the ramp at Saint-Charles backs up most mornings, and a car sitting in it all winter gets sprayed by every truck that passes. The salt ends up caked on the lower doors and the wheels, and it comes inside on your boots.
Taking the train instead has its own catch. A car parked beside the tracks all day collects fine iron dust from the trains, and on white or silver paint it shows up as tiny orange dots. Washing won’t move it, but an exterior detail will. And the dog that came home from Angell Woods leaves most of the trail on the back seat, which is what an interior detail is for.
When it’s worth the drive in
Hand washes, paint correction and ceramic coating need our bay, so those happen only at the shop, 5300 Van Horne in Côte-des-Neiges. From Beaconsfield that’s about 25 minutes on the 20 outside rush hour, and a fair bit more if you hit Saint-Charles at eight in the morning. A mid-morning slot on a weekday is the easy one.

Before you book
I leave the car at the Beaconsfield station all day. What are the little orange dots on the paint?
Most likely iron dust from the trains. It settles on cars parked near the tracks, sticks to the paint and starts to rust, which is why it looks orange. A regular wash won’t lift it. Book a Mobile Prestige Exterior for a day the car stays home and we’ll take it off in the driveway.
We’re right on Lakeshore and it’s always windy. Can you still work on the car outside?
Most days, yes. Wind mostly means leaves and grit blowing onto a wet car, so leave it on the side of the house or the hedge that blocks the lake. If the forecast looks rough, you can move the booking for free up to 24 hours before.
The kayak rack left scratches on the roof. Can you get them out?
That’s paint correction, which we do at the shop on Van Horne. Fine scratches from straps and racks usually come right out. If one has gone through the clear coat, we’ll tell you before we start.
