Most of Laval is houses with a driveway, from the older bungalows near the Rivière des Prairies to the bigger newer builds out in Sainte-Dorothée and Auteuil. That suits us fine. The van pulls in behind the car and gets to work.
Downtown Laval, around Montmorency metro and Place Bell, is turning into condo towers, and those cars mostly live underground. Some garages have room for the van and some don’t, so tell us about your building when you book.
What the 15 does to a car in winter
A lot of Laval drives into Montreal every morning, over the Médéric-Martin on the 15 or across the Pie-IX, Viau and Papineau-Leblanc bridges. From December to March those roads are wet with brine and slush, and every truck ahead of you throws it back at the car. It dries into a grey crust on the lower doors, the wheels and the tailgate.
The inside gets it too. Salt comes in on boots, and a Saturday at Carrefour Laval means crossing that huge lot in slush on the way back to the car. Where Laval spends its weekends
For families it’s often the Centre de la nature in Saint-Vincent-de-Paul. There’s a little farm with goats and alpacas, canoes and pedal boats on the lake in summer, and skating on that same lake once it freezes. Up in Sainte-Rose you can rent a kayak or a paddleboard at the Berge du Garrot and paddle between the islands of the Rivière des Mille Îles, then walk the old stretch of boulevard Sainte-Rose after. On a rainy day the kids get the Cosmodôme beside the 15, and on warm evenings the restaurant terraces along the Centropolis Promenade fill up.
A summer like that ends up in the car, with sand from the river launch in the cargo area and popcorn from the movies under the booster seat. That’s interior work, and it’s easy to do in the driveway.
When the van’s up in Sainte-Rose in the morning, the team likes grabbing a bag of bagels at Bagel Ste-Rose on the boulevard.
Ceramic and paint correction mean a drive down the 15
The van does details. Washes, paint correction and ceramic coating need our bay, so those happen at the shop at 5300 Van Horne in Côte-des-Neiges. From Laval it’s about 25 minutes outside rush hour, and it’s the 15 nearly the whole way, over the Médéric-Martin and down the Décarie.
If you only make the trip once, make it for a ceramic coating. Salt and road film have a harder time holding onto coated paint, and the car cleans up a lot faster between storms. Fall, before the first salt, is a good time for it. If the paint already has swirls and dull patches from a few winters of automatic car washes, paint correction goes first.

I’m in one of the new towers by Montmorency metro and my car’s parked underground. Can you still do it?
Probably. The van needs room beside the car, so it comes down to your garage: the height clearance and whether there’s space to work. If it won’t fit, bring the car up to a spot outside for the visit and we’ll do it there. Tell us about your building when you book.
Every winter my floor mats end up white from the salt on the 15. Can you get that out?
Most of it, yes. That white crust is salt that dried into the fibres, and Mobile Prestige Interior is the service for it. Carpet that’s been soaking in slush since December may not come back perfectly, so it’s worth doing once in the middle of winter and again in spring instead of waiting until April.
