What the island is like, and what it does to a car
La Station, Nuns’ Island
Nuns’ Island feels a long way from the city for a place that sits right next to it. Most people live in the condo towers, the streets are calm, and the car spends its nights underground. On a warm evening it seems like everyone is out on the paths along the river, from the lookout at the Pointe-Nord esplanade, past Lacoursière Park, down to the woods and the pond at Domaine Saint-Paul on the south end.
The bike path out on the estacade, the old ice boom that runs beside the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge, has one of the best views in Montreal. You’re out on the water with the new bridge on one side and downtown behind you. Back on the island, the old Esso station Mies van der Rohe designed at the corner of rue Berlioz is now La Station, a community centre. It’s black steel and glass under a flat roof that looks like it’s floating. If you like cars and buildings, it’s worth a slow drive past.
All that open water brings wind. Every drive off the island crosses a bridge or runs along the Bonaventure, and on wet days the spray from traffic leaves a grey film on the windshield and the lower doors. In winter that spray is salty. The car then goes down into a warm garage, the slush melts off, and the salt dries back onto the paint and into the carpets. By March it shows up as white lines along the rocker panels and floor mats that crunch when you step on them.
When your car lives in a condo garage
The van carries its own water and power, so all it needs is a spot for your car. If you’d like the work done down in your garage, ask your building first. Some condo boards are fine with an outside detailer and some aren’t, and the van has to clear the garage entrance, which not every ramp allows.

When it’s worth the drive to Van Horne
If the road spray and winter salt get to you every year, a ceramic coating helps. Grime has a harder time sticking to the paint and comes off more easily when you wash it. Coating needs the bay, so we do it at the shop, and the packages start with the 1-year Lustre. If the paint is already swirled, book paint correction first.
The shop is about 15 minutes away outside rush hour. We’re open Monday to Wednesday 10 to 5, Thursday 11 to 7, Friday and Saturday 9 to 7, and Sunday 11 to 5. An Express hand wash takes about 20 minutes if you’d rather wait for it.

Before you book
Can you do the detail down in my building’s garage?
Only if your building says yes and the van fits under the garage entrance. Check both with your management or syndicate before you book. If the garage doesn’t work out, a visitor spot or an outdoor space your building lets you use is fine.
Do you charge extra to come out to the island?
No. Mobile details are one flat price anywhere in Greater Montreal, and Nuns’ Island is no different. There’s no travel fee.
My car is grey with spray from the bridge. Which detail do I book?
If it’s mostly the paint, glass and lower doors, the Mobile Prestige Exterior is the one. If the mats and carpets are white with salt too, the Mobile ABSOLUX does inside and out. For a plain wash, come to the shop, since washes need the bay.
What if it’s storming on the day?
You can cancel for free up to 24 hours before. After that, give us a call at 438 817-8172 and we’ll sort out another day with you.
