Where the 15 meets the 30

Candiac sits right on the interchange where the 15 and the 30 cross. The 15 takes you north to the bridge and the island, or south toward the border. The 30 is how trucks get around Montreal instead of through it, so whichever way you’re headed, there’s usually a trailer somewhere in front of you.
In winter that means brine spray. The rest of the year it’s road film, a greasy grey layer from exhaust and tires that settles on the hood, the windshield and the backs of the mirrors. Not everyone drives in. The exo train leaves from the station on rue de la Sorbonne and runs to Lucien-L’Allier downtown, and plenty of commuters leave the car in the lot beside it for the day.
Down by the river
Boulevard Marie-Victorin follows the St. Lawrence along the north edge of town, and Parc André-J.-Côté is the stretch people use most. There’s plenty of shade, an open-air stage with stone arches where the town holds summer shows, and the old stone Maison Hélène-Sentenne, which is Candiac’s cultural centre. Below the park, a path runs along the water with the Montreal skyline across the river. Keep walking west and you’ll end up at the Récré-O-Parc in Sainte-Catherine. Once it freezes, the park gets an ice loop for skating.
Summer evenings down there come home as sand and grass in the footwells. In winter it’s wet skates and boots on the mats. A Mobile Prestige Interior sorts that out without the car leaving the driveway.
Bungalows, big driveways and new buildings
Candiac was planned from the start, and the older part of town near the 132 still looks it, with curving streets, low bungalows set back on wide lots, and street names borrowed from Europe, like Strasbourg and Deauville. Head toward the 30 and the houses get newer and bigger, many with a double garage and a long paved driveway. A driveway is the easiest setup we get. The van pulls in behind the car and we start.
Square Candiac, next to the Montcalm bus terminus, is townhouses and condo buildings around a big park, and the new neighbourhood around the train station is mostly apartment buildings, with more still going up. There, we need the car somewhere the van can pull up alongside it, with room to open every door. Mention your building when you book.

Washes, paint correction and ceramic coating happen at the shop in Côte-des-Neiges. For a car that lives on the 15 and the 30, a coating makes the most sense. Road film and brine don’t bond to coated paint as easily, so the car comes clean with a lot less scrubbing.

Asked between the river and the train
The kids skate the ice loop at André-J.-Côté all winter and kick the backs of the front seats the whole way home. Will those marks come off?
Most of them. Scuffs from boots and skate guards are usually rubber and dirt sitting on top of the plastic, and a Mobile Prestige Interior cleans them off. If a blade has actually cut the plastic or the seat, cleaning won’t fix that. It’s a job for an upholstery shop.
