Bernard, Laurier and the two park ponds
Théâtre Outremont on Bernard
Bernard is where Outremont goes out. The old Théâtre Outremont shows films on Monday nights and has concerts, dance and comedy from fall through spring. In summer the stretch around it fills up with terraces and benches, and it’s a nice place to walk after a film.
Laurier West is the shopping street, with bakeries, cheese shops and clothing boutiques running up to the Saint-Viateur church. One day in June the square in front of that church filled up with classic cars, which is our kind of street party. Keep going to the end of Laurier at Côte-Sainte-Catherine and a staircase takes you up onto the mountain.
Parc Outremont has a pond with an old cherub fountain in the middle and benches all the way around. A short walk east, Parc Saint-Viateur has its own pond with a little bridge and a white chalet. Once it freezes, the pond turns into a skating rink and you skate right under the bridge.
When the van’s out this way, lunch is a smoked meat on rye at Lester’s Deli on Bernard, with extra pickles.
Driveways up the slope, duplexes below
Above Côte-Sainte-Catherine the streets climb toward the mountain and the houses get bigger, most of them with a driveway or a garage. That’s the easiest mobile job there is. The van pulls in behind your car, runs on its own water and power, and we work on the car right where it sits.
Down toward Van Horne it’s mostly duplexes and flats, and the car usually lives on the street. A Mobile Prestige Interior works fine there because it all happens inside the car. For the outside, the shop is the easy answer. An Express hand wash takes about 20 minutes.
Winter is harder on cars up the hill. The steep streets get plenty of salt and grit, the slush packs into the wheel wells and dries white along the lower doors, and all those trips back down the hill leave the front wheels dark with brake dust. A mobile detail in the driveway in early spring clears all of it, and the sooner the better, because brake dust gets harder to remove the longer it sits.

Our driveway on the hill is pretty steep. Can you still work on the car there?
Usually, yes. What we need is room to walk all the way around the car and open the doors. If it’s parked tight against the garage or the house, back it out a few feet before we get there.

My wheels are black after a winter of driving up and down the mountain. What should I book?
A Mobile Prestige Exterior at the house. It takes care of the wheels, the lower doors and the salt. If the paint looks dull or scratched once it’s clean, that’s paint correction, and we do that one at the shop.
